When the van pulled up to drop me off at work this AM the kids were waiting at the gate. When the door opened they yelled "Tiempo...Hola Tiempo!" I was just as excited to see them! I arrived before they had breakfast so had a chance to prep while they were eating. The new kid Jonatan wouldn't leave my side so didn't sit with the other kids. His interactions with me were confirmation I had established the connections I was hoping to the short period of time I'm here.
I decided to make a few adjustments after observing the behavior and dynamics of the group. The kids have an obsession with the mats. They like having something of their "own" and also try to accumulate as many as they can by taking mats from others [especially my favorite Juan Pablo]. So I wrote their names on a piece of tape, placed the tape on mats and handed out based on their favorite colors that they proudly communicated multiple times on Monday.
We were able to get thru 7 yoga posses today before I lost them. The Moos and Meows were the group favorite again. After we were done I had them fold up their mats, put them in the travel bag, and I removed the bag from the room so they didn't have access to them for the rest of the day.
I found a few cool "tech based" exercises online that I'm going to try this week. I purchased 100 plastic cups for the kids to stack and build whatever structures they come up with. The siblings Juan Pablo [3] and Zoe [4] were the most interested and successful at this exercise. The other set of siblings Keyleth and Yeltsin were more interested in knocking down what other kids built and accumulating the most cups. Jonatan attempted to stack and build but Keyleth and Yeltsin literally wrecked his flow.
I helped the kids make "Las Tortugas" from paper plates and construction paper. They were able to use scissors, glue and crayons for decoration. When each one was done they ran thru the house to proudly show "Tia" their creations.
I purchased a dry erase | chalk board combo kit that has alphabets to get some practice in. They fought for it so have to make some adjustments tomorrow.
The remainder of my time with them was spent coloring and playing with them one on one. I noticed the kids naturally went back and forth between the exercises we completed independently so I plan to setup workstations tomorrow. This group is enthusiastic and self directed so I'm hoping this will work well.
Late afternoon we had a dance class with Fabian who's a professional dancer. We covered Salsa, Cha Cha Cha, Merengue, Bachata and Ragueton. I broke a legit sweat and needed to take multiple water breaks.
After dance class I had my 2nd Spanish lesson. I was given a few cheat sheets I can use at the daycare. I really need to practice my Spanish and will more than likely enroll in some classes. After the lesson I blogged and crashed.
