As soon as we arrived at the resort we were escorted to the dining hall for dinner before it shut down for the evening. I suddenly realized there was an unlimited buffet in my all inclusive package. At home Memorial Day celebrations were happening, but it was going to be Thanksgiving the next few days for me in Greece.
There were a couple of restaurants on the resort. The front desk staff referred to them as "Meat" and "Fish" when I inquired about reservations. Each restaurant had 3 options for each of the 3 courses served. Overall the food was well prepared, but they weren't staffed to accommodate our large group and all courses weren't served hot. I was hungry and forgot to take photos of the seafood soup, sea bass and creme brûlée at "Fish"
Our first full day in Crete we found a restaurant that delivered until 4 AM!! [our crew placed multiple orders nightly around 2 AM] The street food is phenomenal but I don't want to see a Gyro or chicken Pita for awhile.
My best food experience was at Coast Cafe on Crete Island [recommended by taxi driver]. Our server presented herself the way I'm accustomed to the owner of an establishment treating patrons. The menu options were discussed as if she authored them herself. Her recommendations, service and passion for Greek food was spot on!
I plan to visit Greece again and will definitely spend more time exploring the restaurants. If you visit Crete I highly recommend dinner at Coast Cafe!
